UK SUPREME COURT
The Supreme Court opened in October 2009, replacing the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords as the highest court in the United Kingdom.
Sited on the Western side of Parliament square in the former Middlesex Guildhall, the Supreme Court building underwent an extensive renovation program to restore it to its former splendour and Saper Glass is proud to have been a part of this very prestigious project.
Entrance Screen – A frameless glass screen controlling entry and exit to the building, the screen combined security with great beauty as the glass used was a high specification toughened laminated glass which was decorated with detailed and ornate depth carving depicting the Courts logo and text.
Law Library – Our works within this area comprised of a glazed fire rate double doorset which incorporated kiln formed glass panel depicting a detailed image of the Magna Carta scroll, we also produced feature glass cladding panels which are installed around the stairwell and contain ornate depth carved text which is edge lit to further enhance the visual effect.
Court 2 Entrance Screen – a 4m tall curved partition screen with full height doors at each end and detailed sandblasted manifestation incorporating the statement “Justice cannot be for one side alone but must be for both” written full width across the screen in depth carved lettering. The text was written in two parallel bands with the lower one reversed so it could indeed be read correctly from both sides.
